Yes, I have now retired and certainly don’t know how I ever found time to work. Retirement is fun but it sure keeps one busy, too. I spend half of each year in MN and the other half in AZ—and both halves are busy ones. My husband and I love to travel—just last year we were in Eastern Europe on a river cruise and visited with relatives of his in Serbia. Travel in the United States is filling up much of our time also. I do play a lot of bridge and some golf----I am a lot better at one than the other.
So, what did I retire from? I just finished 36 years of working as a tax preparer, tax class instructor and an enrolled agent. I did the tax preparing and teaching with H&R Block and enjoyed it very much. Being an enrolled agent was sort of like have your PhD in tax preparation in that I could represent all of my clients before the IRS- which did have its advantages. It was sort of hard to leave my job because I had such a large number of clients, most of whom had become friends over the years.
I still do enjoy being one of the “chicks” in the Chicks Laying Nest Egg Group. I have remained treasurer of the group since we began which, besides collecting and recording dues paid and late dues to issue “fines” for, I have mastered the computer task of buying and selling stock on line. I don’t know now why I thought that was going to be so difficult when I first began my job. As of right now, we do own stock in seventeen different companies and each of us has been assigned (or chosen) different companies to track---by reading, checking details of, and reporting on. It is such a unique learning experience. We have two face to face meetings each year which we are each required to attend. When we do meet face-to-face it is so neat to “feel” what happens there. Mainly, we all get so “excited” during those meetings and come home rejuvenated. Right, chicks?? |
