Chick Lynn flew the coop and is living and working in Minnesota.
I was definitely not the child who was handed allowance and stashed it for a rainy day!
I still can't turn down that great pair of shoes!!
I grew up in Northern Minnesota on Lake Superior spending most of my childhood outdoors, hunting and fishing with my father, walking to the nearest skating rink, and hiking to the beaches!
Money was not that important to me until my father died when I was 16. I found myself growing up very fast and helping my mother. Along came college, marriage and my first beautiful daughter, Jessica, at the ripe old age of 20. Oh man, did I have to start counting pennies in a hurry. I loved being a Mom - it was and is the greatest joy of my life. We worked hard and supported our family! What else was there?
At age 23 along came our second precious daughter, Julie.
I worked full time, raised my family, but sadly my marriage came to an end at age 31. My divorce cost me $250, and we both walked away with dignity with one main priority! To continue to parent and love our children unconditionally, and to never ever drag them through our adult problems. All our children wanted was love, security and a sense of self worth! Being single again, juggling work and raising kids, being worth only "half" was another new life hurdle. Counting pennies-again!
I met my second husband, he came with three bonus children, and he opened his heart to my two daughters. We are now raising five J's: Jessica, Julie, Jon, Jenna and Jaye.
Oh yes, two dogs, a bird and a duck.
Along came Karin, that crazy neighbor of mine, with this idea to start an investment club. With all due respect, people were jumping out of windows in New York City due to the intensity and volatility of the stock market. Why would I ever want to do that with my money? I was doing what everyone else was doing. Hard earned $ into the hands of financial advisors, accountants, savings, brokers, mutual funds, annuities, etc. Statements came in the mail and I could never understand them. I figured we would get a phone call if there was any concern. Duh!! What was I thinking?
Who would ever be more interested in my $ and my future than me!
So, the chicks started cluckin'!! We all had duties, duties and more duties to fulfill prior to our first meeting. Reading, reading and more reading. We even had to do math! Our first meeting was spent rolling dollar bills into rings, sharing our personal ups and downs, holding babies, having a few spirits, going for a boat ride, and a lot of stalk talk. We also discussed in great detail the club motto, "What is discussed in a Chick meeting, stays at the Chick meeting." From that first meeting we started building our nests.
I am now investing on-line personally, researching companies, yes, and even doing the math. Most important, I continue to smile, laugh, and cry with these great women! We share our funnies and our sadness and boost each other whenever we can. We discuss everything under the sun. What is greater than females bonding and making money?!!
