Babes for Bucks

CHICKS: How did you all meet?

BABES for BUCKS: Some of us Babes (7) belong to a dress club, where we meet once a month to blow money! The other 3, however, knew a couple of the other Babes but came into it blind and, let me tell you, us original Babes were hoping they would fit in, Ha Ha!  For the record they fit in PERFECTLY! Were we lucky or what?

Now that the word is out around the burbs that this is what we are doing, fellow babes are just as excited about it as we are! The trouble is if we were rocket scientists and wanting to take real chances we could expand by quite a bit.  But hey, the simplicity of the math (ten is a very easy number to work with) and finding 10 women to get along as well as we do were good enough reasons for us to stop at that number.

Where are you located?

We, unlike a lot of the other clubs, are all located in Calgary -- different areas but all within the same city. So our most exciting place will be in Babe Caroline's hot tub. Stay tuned for our next updated photo.

How long have you been together?

We first met in February 2001 at Babe Paulette's house and we were privileged to have a key note speaker attend and get us, needless to say, VERY excited!  You may have heard of her; she goes by the name Chick Karin.

Would you accept any new members?

Adding new members will have to be discussed, but until we feel really confident about it all, I think we don't want to mess with the equation we have going for us now. But if that new software program proves to be good and can figure new members' percentages... then hey, the sky is the limit.

Do you meet online or face-to-face?

Because everything has been very new for our club, especially the computer, all of our meetings have been face to face. We now have two buys under our belt though, and summer is here. So our first online meeting will be July 8 at 7:30 pm.

What prompted you to start the club?

Well it's not what you know it's whom you know in our case. Our Babe Anita was at a mother-daughter campout, and her roommate for the weekend, was none other than Chick Karin! Voila, need I say more? I don't think either of them had a voice by the end of the weekend.

How did you come up with your name?

The first time we met, we knew we wanted to do this. For the second meeting, we were told to have thought of some names. We all took a vote and there you have it. Besides, when you're sitting in front of your computer and plugging away at it, nothing makes you feel more like a babe!

What stocks do you own?

We currently own Sun Microsystems (NADAQ: SUNW) and Oracle, (NASDAQ: ORCL). We plan to buy once a quarter and follow each company quarterly.

How has your portfolio done?

Well let me see, our portfolio, (remember long term). We seem to be focusing on the tech industry as it is down and this is the time to buy good companies in this industry.  As a group we feel these two are definite leaders in their field and I can smell the BIG KAHUNA from these.

What is the greatest benefit you've received since joining your club?

The greatest benefit I myself have gotten from this is just feeling that I can do something else other than housework! I think all of us together have a common goal so we are all focused and when we get together we have a blast!

What's your club's funniest story?

Our funniest story as a club is just trying to figure out where our messages are, sending things out to one another, but then really not -- we're just playing, overall, with all of our little minds. It makes us all laugh.

What has been your greatest problem running the club?

The toughest thing we had to face as a club was getting together for this club picture. And oh yeah, the computer. I myself had never even turned on a computer and a lot of the babes were in my shoes as well. So along with the info overload we were getting about stock some of us also had to get online.

What advice do you have for other clubs either starting out or that have been around awhile?

My only advice is the same as the other clubs around. You all have to get along and all want the same thing. Keep in mind not everyone all the time gives 100%.  Sometimes some are busy and others aren't so there has to be some give and take but one persons busy month may be another's slow month and visa versa.
