Bucks for Babes

See the Member Profiles at the
bottom of this page.
CHICKS: Tell us how you met and how long you've
been together as a club.
BUCKS for BABES: We are all from the same general area and most
of us have known each other for many years, including high school. We
started our club in October of 2001.
What prompted you to start a club?
We had read and heard about such things and a couple of us one evening
over a drink or two had the idea it would be fun and a good way to "play"
the market in a very interesting time of the stock market. (A little
late for the Bull market, but you know the old saying "A day late
and a dollar short").
How did you come up with your name?
We are all die hard Buckeye fans and since Babes for Bucks was
taken, we did the switch thing.
Where are you located?
Most of us: Scioto Township, Ohio. It is a rural community area with
small towns and farms approximately 25 miles south of Columbus. Some
of us are a little closer to the rat race. Small town America at it's
best.
Do you meet online, or face-to-face?
We meet face to face with the exception of one member who is out of
state and joins us either via conference call or online.
How has your portfolio done?
Not well, so far, but we are all very hopeful and have eternal optimism.
What's been the greatest benefit of being
together as a club?
Being able to work out all the problems that you never think about in
the beginning. We are stronger as a group and everyone contributes something
the rest of us have not thought about.
What's been your club's greatest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been and still is working through the details
of the club. Some members are more structured than others in their management
style. We've had some serious conversations over structure and the play
book and are currently revisiting our play book and organizational issues.
We are all friends and it has been a trying but valuable experience.
We have been able to stay friends even with our different styles. Of
course, we never had any doubt about that issue. Just a part of the
Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
What advice would you give new clubs?
Our advice would be not to get hot feet and start buying
before you have the club in order. The devil is in the details. Never
have meeting without an agenda and elect strong, dependable leaders.
Take your time and choose your members well. Don't assume because you
get along in a social situation you have the same organizational or
long term goals, regardless of how the "talk" has been. Really
test the water. But on the other hand don't be so structured that someone
feels that they cannot bring up a new idea. Keep open minds. Have fun
BUT only after you have taken care of business.
