Question of the Week

What was your best 4th of July ever?

Chick Karin   Because I'm such a July 4th lover, I've never had a bad one. Do you think there is a word for a July 4th maniac? Like a Fourth Fireworks Fanatic, or Independence Day Addict? I truly celebrate the 12 Days of Independence! On the first day of Independence, Uncle Sam did give to me... a sparkler in a blue martini. On the second day of Independence, Uncle Sam did give to me... two chocolate Dove Bars, and a sparkler in a blue martini. On the third day of Independence, Uncle Sam did give to me... three French Silk pies, two chocolate Dove Bars and a sparkler in a blue martini. On the fourth day of Independence, Uncle Sam did give to me... four(ty) girlfriends calling, three French Silk pies, two chocolate Dove Bars and a sparkler in a blue martini. On the fifth day of Independence, Uncle Sam did give to me... FIVE MO-O-O-RE HOURS, four(ty) girlfriends calling, three French Silk pies, two chocolate Dove Bars and a sparkler in a blue martini.

And it goes on like this for days. There's even swans-a-swimming and maids-a-cleaning. The worst part about the Fourth of July is that the fifth comes. My twelve step withdrawal program ain't pretty.

Chick Cheryl   Oh my goodness, there isn't any one that stands out in my mind except the one where I choked on a penny and my mom had to hang me by my ankles to get me to spit it out! I love the holiday so I suppose they've all been fun.

Chick Jana   Since the 4th of July is 2 days after my birthday, most of my 4ths have been fun, since I'm usually still celebrating. My most vivid memory is when I was a child going to my grandparents cabin on Yellow River in Wisconsin. They have this long dirt road that leads to the cabin.  We'd take sparklers, light them and then run down the road until the sparklers burned out. It was so scary and fun walking back in the dark with my cousins or by myself. My most favorite 4th would have to be yesterday, sitting poolside after a great day with friends, fun and food. Our kids were in matching Hawaiian outfits, looking as adorable as ever, Alaine, 3, on Mac's lap, Austin, 1, on my lap. It was so fun to watch fireworks through the very, wide eyes of our children.

Chick Kristin   When I was 21, I sang and danced at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. From mid-June to mid-July, we performed all day and then did a parade in the evening. I was chosen for a solo that was awesome to sing -- Gloria Estefan's "Get on Your Feet." Our costumes were normally white, but on the 4th of July, we wore red, white and blue outfits. That night, Bugs Bunny turned 50 and sported a red, white and blue costume too. When the parade finished its route, Six Flags had a huge fireworks display. Later that evening, the park employees picked a King and Queen for the Employee party, and I was queen!

Chick Susie   The summer I did post graduate work in Boston, 1976. The tall ships sailed into Boston harbor and through a friend, who knew the captain of one of the ships; I was able to embark on the final leg of the journey. With the Boston Symphony playing, the awesome display of patriotism in celebration of our nation's 200th birthday, it was possibly the most moving event I have witnessed, certainly the best Fourth of July.

Chick Lorene   Can't say as I have a favorite 4th of July... being Canadian and all!!  My favorite July 1st celebration was the first one that my son was old enough to really enjoy.  His eyes were shining brighter than the sky.

Chick Julie   One year Jeanette and 3 other friends of ours were sunbathing on the Italian Riviera sipping on margaritas and wondering how any 4th of July could be better than that!

Chick Jeanette   My first response to that is the 4th of July in 1955. I was 19 yrs old and studying at the university of Oslo, Norway. No one celebrated the 4th, of course. So in the evening a group of students who were Americans found a couple of sparklers (where we found them--I don't remember that part of it now) and lit them and sang the national anthem. It was my first 4th outside the United States and I know it made me feel proud to be an American. Ja vi elsker dette landet.
