Question of the WeekQOW Archives »Do you look forward to your high school reunions, or use these "I'm going to be out of town that weekend" excuse? Chick Susie My high school reunions are few and far in between. I think we did 10 and 20 and I loved the first night with the girls (went to all-girls Catholic HS), but dread when the next night is couples. Chick Lorene I have only had one (wink, wink)... just my ten year, and it ended up being really fun! I left my hometown right after I graduated, so I had really lost touch with everyone. Some of the normal, boring questions were being asked (What do you do? Where do you live? blah blah blah...) But my favorite was "How many kids do you have?" I said four, and the response was "No way. You couldn't possibly have four kids! [I love that part!] All with the same Dad?" No kidding!! That killed me, too funny. I mentioned that some people do it that way you know!! Chick Megan I totally looked forward to my reunion. Believe it or not, I was a bit of a rebel in high school. Everyone's mom and dad thought I would be the least likely to succeed. I think they were all amazed that I had gotten my act together and graduated from college... unlike many others!!!! Chick Julie I was just at a "small" class reunion involving my girlfriends -- about 8 of us showed up and had a ball. We discussed our future real class reunion and half of them don't like to go because they are too fat or divorced, etc., etc. I tried to explain nobody cares what they look like; its just fun to see each other. I'm from a very small town so its always fun going home. Chick Kristin I love going to high school reunions, but the rest of my class seems to always have a difficult time just organizing the get-together. I love seeing old friends, meeting significant others and learning about how our lives have changed. Chick Lynn I love my class reunions!! I was raised in such a small town that we now have "all" class reunions every five years! The town turns into one HUGE PARTY -- live music, tents, campers, parades. It is so strange going back there every five years and each time not recognizing more and more people. :-) Chick Jana Oh my gosh! I have a group of girlfriends and we call ourselves the Minnesota Rock Stars. (We think we're rock stars when we get together and attempt to act like them, but rarely pull it off.) Anyway, I missed the last reunion 'cuz I was pregnant with Austin. The Rock Stars all donned cool, matching sunglasses at the reunion. I was so jealous not to be there. It's like seeing a piece of yourself all over again, the good part of yourself that you left behind in high school. It's so fun to go back and just and surround yourself with friends and remember what life was like when it was simple and sweet. I for sure won't miss my 20th! Oops, I mean 10th... right, Lorene? Chick Jeanette I do enjoy going to my high school reunions. We have had them every five years since we graduated. That means that we have so far held nine reunions with my 50th being the next one up. There were over 700 members in my graduation class -- I graduated from Minneapolis Roosevelt, which at that time was the largest high school in the state. I only knew about one half of the students them. I think I know more of them now since I have been to those five reunions. We have always had them at nice places in Minneapolis or its suburbs with dinner and dancing. Our 50th will be at a beautiful country club in Wayzata. We have also begun having annual Arizona reunions since we have all reached the retirement age and many RHS-ers have retired to Phoenix as I have. I have been in charge of the last couple of these and have enjoyed everyone so much. Go Teddies! Chick Cheryl I must be weird; I totally look forward to high school reunions... even if they're not mine! Just went to my husband's in Waterloo, Iowa and had a great time. I guess its because I love people and watching the whole dynamic of old high schoolers getting together is absolutely hilarious! My 20th is next year and I'm counting the days! Hehehe. Chick
Karin Well just last week I went to my 5 year class
reunion. No winking here. I can't believe that nobody could remember me. But, I can hardly wait to do it again next year. |
