Question of the Week

QOW Archives »

If you could leave one personal item as a memorial at the site of the World Trade Center catastrophe, what would it be?

Chick Jeanette  I think I would leave a written prayer. I would pray for all of the victims and their families in their grief and sorrow. Then I would pray for our government leaders for the power to make the correct decisions in the days to come.

Chick Lynn  I don't know what exactly I would leave behind; there is nothing that I have that could possibly make a difference. I do know; however, that I would give up my home and all of my material possessions, along with a promise to dedicate the rest of my life to whatever necessary, just to return these innocent, talented people back to their loved ones. I think that I can comprehend the sadness and sorrow that is going on just by watching the TV, but can I really? If we were walking around in that war zone, where would we really be putting our energy right now? Today I was trying to work and did silly little things like update my business card, had my car washed -- basically just wandering around. Nothing really made sense to me today. Did it to you? But then I think back to yesterday. My day was filled with sadness and disbelief, I was glued to the TV repeating to myself, "This is unbelievable."

Then all of a sudden there was a little knock on my door and it was my beautiful little God-daughter. Her little face and her smile changed my day. We were playing and watching TV and all of a sudden she fell asleep in my arms. I had to wake her up when her parents came to get her, she woke up, looked at me, gave me the biggest smile and told me she loved me. May we never stop focusing on the "little" things that make us the happiest. God Bless America and our future!

Chick Cheryl  An American Flag soiled by the salt of my tears. I want the victims and their families to know that their devastating loss is being felt by ALL and this country will stand UNITED to let their death not be in vain, but to help us grow stronger because of it.

Chick Kristin  I wouldn't leave an item as a memorial at the site. Instead, I would drive there and serve as a volunteer working as many hours as possible, in any way possible, to show my support as an American.

Chick Karin  It's not really a personal item, I'd have to go buy another one, but I'd like to raise a flag at the scene. I'm guessing that those who were killed in the accident would in no way want this to weaken our country, but instead would want their tragedy to be the resurgence of solidarity. I think they would want us to take their deaths and turn it into something positive in an enormous way so they will never be forgotten.

Chick Julie  I would leave myself there to help dig out the victims. I don't think any object that I would leave there would have any affect on the families. I hope they all understand that all Americans are grieving with them and feel so helpless.

Chick Lorene  I don't believe that there is one single material item that could possibly make a difference. In that wreckage lies the hopes and dreams of countless families, all that we can do as a country is stand united.
