Question of the Week

Do you think
Halloween should be cancelled this year?
Chick Karin What do I think? I think it's preposterous.
(That's my new word for the week... preposterous. It's Latin for contrary to
nature, reason, or common sense : ABSURD.) The last thing I think we should
do is let these terrorists instill fear in our children. It's hard enough to
explain to them what's going on out of their realm, to confuse them even
further by telling them that they too should be afraid... well, is
preposterous. The chances are much greater that they could get hit by
a car trick or treating than be subject to a terrorist act. Be sure to tell
them to look both ways... and that's the extent of what our kids should be
worried about this Halloween.
Chick Jeanette I have always
thought that Halloween is sort of a "dumb" holiday, but I don't feel that
the celebrations need to be cancelled. Supervised more closely, perhaps, but
not cancelled. Maybe I'll just hide under the covers with all lights out in
the house.
Chick Cheryl I say phooey!!! I've
even heard of communities canceling all trick or treating! What's that about?? Honestly, I completely don't understand that. Is the fear that the
neighbors will lace your child's candy with Anthrax? I know my neighborhood;
I feel very safe and I will definitely be pounding the concrete with my
little red power ranger and the cutest little witch that you ever did see!
Chick Kristin I believe we should
celebrate Halloween. Other than the concern that candies may be laced
chemically, why wouldn't we? As a nation, why should the events of Sept. 11,
2001 interfere with a tradition that was originally meant to celebrate the
dead? Also, the candy concern isn't a new one -- sickos have historically
tried to ruin Halloween by tampering with candy. I feel sorry for them.
Chick Lorene I think that it is a
person's personal choice to take their kids to something like that during
this time. I have comfort in letting my kids trick-or-treat on my street,
but I would not take them to a public place, especially to touch and eat
something from strangers!! If there is still enough of an interest to
warrant holding a public celebration, then so be it!
Chick Megan I think people should
do whatever they feel. I am concerned, but not afraid... does that make
sense? Various places in Cinci are canceling, and I am fortunate to live in
a terrific cul-de-sac with great families. We are all planning on hanging
out together to celebrate. Would I visit other homes with my kids to collect
candy? Yeah, probably... I'd just scrutinize their bags a bit more.
Chick Julie I don't think we
should stop the Halloween festivities. Next, they'll say nobody should
travel on Thanksgiving or Christmas, all holiday parties should be
cancelled, and no Santa Claus' in the malls. We need to be careful and smart
but keep trying to maintain a "normal" life. |
