Question of the Week

QOW Archives »

If you could put a tattoo on anyone, who would you pick, what would it be, and where would you put it?

I really don't like tattoos so I would give one to someone I did not like. How 'bout give one to Osama across his forehead that says "Any one who sees this, shoot me!" Chick Jeanette

I am so upset about another child being stolen from her bed and killed I think I would have to tattoo that neighbor's forehead with CHILD MURDERER/MOLESTER! Sorry, I know there hasn't been a trial yet, but come on... her blood was found on his clothes and in his motor home! Chick Cheryl

Oh this question makes me laugh! Visions of the Rolling Stone's tongue on my mom's butt are quite hilarious, but seriously, I think I would give tattoos to my children, they would each get a heart that says, I am loved. I'd probably put it in some inconspicuous place like the bottom of their feet. They could see it every day when they put their socks on for the rest of their lives. A mother has to leave her mark somewhere on her kids so why not a heart tattoo on the bottom of their feet? Chick Jana

I'm not a fan of tattoos. It seems like people either cover their bodies with them or they put them in a location so hidden nobody ever sees them. But, to answer the question, I would put an American flag on my leg. (Maybe.) Chick Julie

I would tattoo my kids with their social security number on the bottom of their foot. It's every mother's biggest fear that they go missing, are dead on the side of the road, or just plain get lost in the airport. This way, the powers that be can look up their branded number and would instantly be able to find out who they are and to whom they belong. I know it sounds like a very sick thing to brand our children, but it would sure put parents at ease. It can't possibly be any more painful than circumcision. Chick Karin

I would put an "My heart belongs to Amy" on Tom Cruises wonderful bicep! Amy

Whoppi Goldburg would be my choice. I don't know why, but it bothers me so much that she does not have eyebrows, so I'd like to see her get some tattooed on. Amanda

And our award for the Most Responsible Answer goes to...

I simply don't believe in tattoos or extraneous body piercing decorations. No, I'm not old fashioned on behind the trends, it's simply a matter of good health. Did you know that a recent study found that people who received tattoos from commercial tattoo parlors were nine times more likely to be infected with the hepatitis C virus than people who didn't have any tattoos?

It's important to note that these were tattoos from commercial parlors, not just amateur tattoos. Doctors took into consideration the possibility of other risk factors, such as intravenous drug use, blood transfusions or sexual promiscuity. Surprisingly, tattoos seemed to be responsible for more than twice the number of hepatitis cases as drug use.

Hepatitis C can be spread by tattoo parlors if equipment isn't sterilized properly between customers, if ink gets contaminated or if the tattoo artist does things like testing the sharpness of the needle on his own skin. Most areas don't regulate the safety or cleanliness of tattoo parlors. Hepatitis C can be treated if it's caught early enough. Left untreated it can cause serious liver damage, liver cancer or even death. Keep those risks in mind before you visit the tattoo parlor.

Now should I go into the body piercing health risks, or leave those for my next soapbox? Chick Susie
